University of New Orleans to Join Southland Conference
NEW ORLEANS – Since word of Thursday's impending announcement hit e-mail inboxes in the form of a press release on Tuesday morning, the University of New Orleans has benefitted from a surge of national publicity.
This should not be a surprise to fans of college athletics. Conference realignment is big news.
UNO's move quickly became a national story with coverage over the last 48 hours from ESPN, CBS Sports, NBC Sports, Yahoo! Sports and in print in many newspapers across the United States including the New Orleans Times Picayune.
Throw in publicity from Sports Illustrated' s Andy Glockner that the Privateers' home opener against San Jose State was one of the top 25 'must-see' non-conference games of the 2012-13 basketball season and the institution had the 'perfect storm'.
