Andy Glockner's Column on 'Must See Non-Conference Face-Offs'
NEW ORLEANS – University of New Orleans head men's basketball coach
Mark Slessinger has made numerous appearances around the city of New Orleans promoting his team's Nov. 9 home opener against San Jose State.
On Tuesday, Slessinger received an assist from Sports Illustrated's Andy Glockner, who billed the contest as one of the “must see non-conference face-offs” of the 2012-13 season.
Glockner wrote in a column released on the SI web site, “After years of post-Katrina decline, a two-year dalliance with a drop from Division I athletics and a switch from the Louisiana State system to the University of Louisiana system, the Privateers have decided to stay in D-I. Good for them and good luck helping rebuild the school and reconnecting with the city.”
The match-up against SJSU is one of several contests featuring the Privateer men's basketball squad against well-known mid-major opposition around across the country.
An NCAA Division I Independent in 2012-13, Slessinger's squad will also play the likes of Southern Illinois, Southeast Missouri and former Sun Belt Conference rival Texas-Pan American at Lakefront Arena.
The UNO athletic department anticipates releasing season ticket information in early September. Fans are encouraged to fill out a season ticket information form at UNOPrivateers.com to ensure that they will receive this information upon release.
