BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The New Orleans track and field teams competed in the Samford Open and Invitational in Birmingham, Alabama at the Birmingham CrossPlex, Saturday in the third indoor meet of the season for the Privateers.
The meet was highlighted by personal bests from a number of young athletes and high finishes by some veterans.
"We had some high notes but we are slowly putting the pieces together as we head to conference," said interim track and field coach
Adam Carlisle. "We had some individual performances but we are still working toward a complete team performance. We are not there yet but every week we are getting a little better."
Defending Southland Conference Pentathlon Champion
Farydah Inoussa turned in a personal record in the shot put at 39-01.25. The senior was also clocked in 8:97 in the 60-meter hurdles.
Junior Kaho Mikaele had a good day finishing 3
rd in the shot (43-08.50) and seventh in the weight throw (52-08.75).
Sophomore
Michael Strong out of Lusher High School in New Orleans followed last week's second place finished in the long jump in Arkansas with a third place in Birmingham with a leap of 22-08.00. Strong finished fourth in the men's triple jump at 43-10.75.
Carlisle was pleased with the work of his distance runners.
Aaron Albert looks like he's on track to run well at the conference meet, finished fifth in the men's 3,000-meters in a time of 8:42.78. And freshmen
Lucas Marcello (9:18.69 at 3,000) Caleb Chanet (4:39.47) and
Nicholas Phillips (4:43.70) set personal bests in the men's mile run.

Harrison Coleman finished sixth in the 60-meter hurdles with a clocking of 8:47.
Freshman
Trenton Anderson lowered his time at 800 meters with a time of 2:03.11.
The Privateers return to Birmingham next week, Sunday, January 28 for the KMS Invitational at the Birmingham CrossPlex. The Southland Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships are set for February 21-22, in Birmingham.
