SCHEDULE | PRINTABLE SCHEDULE | ICAL DOWNLOAD | GOOGLE CALENDAR DOWNLOADNEW ORLEANS, La. – The 2015 New Orleans Privateer indoor volleyball team will participate in four tournaments with two of those at home as part of the 2015 schedule released by the Department of Athletics on Friday afternoon.
Â
The Privateers' roster, which will feature 10 newcomers under second-year head coach
Millicent Van Norden, will get their first test of the year in the Florida Gulf Coast Tournament on Aug. 28-29 in Fort Myers, Fla.
Â
The first home matches of the season will take place the following weekend on Sept. 4-5 in the first of two invitationals hosted by the Privateers where New Orleans will welcome in Providence, Eastern Washington and LaSalle. The second home tournament will feature Tennessee State, Grambling and Mississippi Valley on Sept. 18-19.
Â
After going to the UNC Asheville tournament on Sept. 11-12 in between their two host weekends, the Privateers will also have road non-conference matches against Southern Miss and Tulane on Sept. 15 and Sept 29.
Â
Also on the September slate are the first two conference road tilts at Houston Baptist and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on Sept. 24 and Sept. 26.
Â
"We have a lot of matches at home in the Human Performance Center this year," said Van Norden of the schedule. "We're excited to give our fan base a great opportunity to see how much we have grown since last season. I'm really excited about our schedule. I think our non-conference play is more competitive than what it was last season and it gives us the opportunity to get better and prepare for conference play."
Â
In total, the schedule features 16 home matches including seven alone in the month of October.
Â
October and November will heavily feature conference matches for the Privateers. The three non-conference matches in that span are vs. Southern (Oct. 8), vs. Texas-Pan American (Oct. 19) and vs. Jackson State (Nov. 16).Â
Â
After opening with the first four conference matches on the road, the Privateers will then play seven of the following nine matches at the Human Performance Center starting with the Southern match and continuing through the remainder of October.
Â
"In conference we have schools coming to New Orleans for the first time and it gives us an opportunity to set a precedent," added Van Norden. "We have opportunities to host teams like Sam Houston State, Stephen F. Austin and Lamar that we haven't hosted since joining the Southland."
Â
In November, the Privateers will have six matches in total, four of those being at home. The final month of the regular season starts with a road match at Southeastern on Nov. 3 before returning to New Orleans to host Lamar and Sam Houston State on Nov. 5 and Nov. 7.
Â
After traveling to McNeese State on Nov. 10, the Privateers return home to finish out their conference slate against Central Arkansas on Nov. 14 before finishing the season in full at home against Jackson State on Nov. 16.
Â
The conference tournament is located in Conway, Ark. and will run from Nov. 18-22.
