NEW ORLEANS, La. – University of New Orleans Department of Intercollegiate Athletics announces the addition of women's sand volleyball to its family of NCAA Division I sports beginning in 2014-2015.
Sand volleyball is an emerging NCAA sport which competes in the spring and will provide participation opportunities for up to fourteen (14) women. The Privateers sand volleyball program will be one of only approximately 50 in NCAA Division I. The first NCAA Championship in sand volleyball will be held in Spring 2016.
Additionally, New Orleans Athletics will discontinue sponsorship of women's golf effective June 30, 2014. UNO reintroduced women's golf in 2011 after the program was eliminated during the period of institutional transition after Hurricane Katrina.
