New Orleans Baseball to Host LSU at Zephyr Field

NEW ORLEANS, La. – Coach Ron Maestri will begin his second tenure as head coach of the New Orleans Privateers with a pair of games against the No. 3 ranked LSU Tigers, coached by his former UNO second baseman Paul Manieri.

The New Orleans Department of Athletics announced Friday that Coach Maestri and his Privateers will play the second of those games against the Tigers on Saturday, February 15th at Zephyr Field.

"We were excited to host the nationally ranked Tigers at newly renovated Maestri Field; however, the overwhelming interest in our home opener versus LSU and the desire to ensure a perfect grand opening of our new facility brought us to the opportunity to partner with the Zephyrs organization on this landmark event,  " said Director of Athletics Derek Morel.

The Privateers will celebrate the newly renovated Maestri Field at Privateer Park with a grand opening ceremony on Friday, March 14th followed by the program's first ever Southland Conference game versus Sam Houston State.

"We are determined to make the grand opening of the newly renovated Maestri Field a special and memorable event for our student-athletes, coaches and fans," said Morel.  "Coach Maestri, President Fos and I agree that this momentous event will align perfectly with our first game as a member of the Southland Conference."

In addition to the LSU game on February 15, the Privateers will play a three-game series versus South Alabama (Feb. 21-23) and a three-game series versus Indiana State (Feb. 28 – March 2) at Zephyr Field.  Wesley Barrow Stadium, home of the Major League Baseball Urban Youth Academy, will host the Privateers midweek contests versus Texas Southern (Feb. 25-26).
