Toledo Qualifies for Golf's World Cup, Heading to China in November (Sept. 25, 2011)
CARACAS, Venezuela - Former University of New Orleans golfer Jose Toledo will get an opportunity to compete against the world's best golfers in November after qualifying for the Omega Mission Hills World Cup on Sunday.
Toledo and Guatemala teammate Pablo Acuna shot a 4-under 67 on Sunday to complete four rounds of the South American qualifier at 24-under par. The score was good enough for third, two strokes ahead of a team for Argentina in a battle for the last spot that concluded when Toledo birdied the final hole.
With their qualification in hand, Toledo and Acuna will represent Guatemala at Mission Hills Haikou golf course in Hainan, China in November.
In China, they will compete against a field of 28 countries including the defending champions Francesco and Edoardo Molinari of Italy. Other top teams in the field will hail from Ireland (Rory McIlroy and Graeme McDowell), the United States (Matt Kuchar and Gary Woodland), England (Ian Poulter and Justin Rose) and Germany (Martin Kaymer and Alex Cejka).
Toledo is in the midst of an active season which includes four top-5 finishes including a medalist victory in a U.S. Open local qualifying event in May and a victory at the four-round Abierto de Hacienda Nueva tournament in March.
Last year, the former Privateer reached the second round of PGA Tour qualifying after a successful season on the Adams Pro Tour.
During his career at UNO, Toledo was twice named the Louisiana Sports Writers Association (LSWA) Player of the Year while qualifying in 2007 to compete in the NCAA East Regional as an individual.
Toledo's next professional event will bring him back towards the Crescent City. He will compete in an Adams Pro Golf Tour event at Ellendale Country Club in Houma, La. at the end of the month.

Toledo, Acuna in Fourth Entering Final Day of South American World Cup Qualifier (Sept. 24, 2011)
CARACUS, Venezuela - The Guatemala duo of Jose Toledo and Pablo Acuna shot a 7-under 64 on Saturday in the South American qualifier for the Omega World Cup.
The result however did not assist the former Privateer golfer Toledo and his teammate.
On a day when scores were low and no team posted worse than a 3-under 68, the Guatemalan squad now enters the final day of competition one stroke out of qualifying for the Omega World Cup.
Brazil leads the field with a 25-under score while Mexico made the big move with a 12-under 59 to get within three strokes of the lead. Argetina is four strokes back with Guatemala five strokes behind the leading Brazilians.
Toledo and Acuna will have 18 more holes to move into third place and gain a spot in Omega Mission Hills World Cup event in Hainan, China that will take place Nov. 24-27.

Toledo, Acuna Move into Second Place At Halfway Point of South American Qualifier (Sept. 23, 2011)
CARACUS, Venezuela - Former University of New Orleans golfer Jose Toledo and teammate Pablo Acuna moved up to second place in the 2011 South American qualifier for the Omega World Cup.
Representing Guatemala, the duo of Toledo and Acuna shot a 4-under 67 on Friday and are one shot behind a pairing from Brazil.
Teams from the Dominican Republic and Argentina are two shots behind the Guatemalans.
The top three squads through four rounds of play will advance to the Omega World Cup in China this November featuring top pairings from around the world.

Toledo, Acuna in Third Through Opening Round of South American Qualifier (Sept. 22, 2011)
CARACAS, Venezuela - Former University of New Orleans golfer Jose Toledo and Guatemalan teammate Pablo Acuna shot a 9-under 62 during the opening round of the Omega Mission Hills South American World Cup qualifier on Thursday while playing under best-ball format rules.
Toledo and Acuna are two strokes behind a pairing from Argentina and one shot behind a duo from the Dominican Republic with three rounds to go.
The Guatemalan squad made the turn in 4-under fashion before shooting 5-under on the back nine to produce their results for the day.
The teams will tee it back up on Friday with the top three teams qualifying for the Omega Mission Hills World Cup event in Hainan, China that will take place Nov. 24-27.

UNO Alum Toledo Competing in World Cup of Golf Qualifier (Sept. 21, 2011)
CARACAS, Venezuela -Former University of New Orleans golfer Jose Toledo will represent his native Guatemala in the Omega Mission Hills South American World Cup qualifier this week.
Toledo is paired with fellow Guatemalan Pablo Acuna in the international team event. Acuna was a 2006 All-Conference USA selection out of the University of Houston.
The top three teams from the 14-team qualifier will advance to the 2011 Omega Mission Hills World Cup, which will take place Nov. 24-27 in Hainan, China. Â The qualifier is one of three events internationally that serve as entry to the November World Cup outside of the World Golf Rankings.
Qualifying for the event in China would allow Toledo and Acuna to compete against some of the world's best players. Â Acuna qualified in 2008 with the Guatemalan squad and finished tied for 22
nd.
Italy's Franceso and Edorado Molinari won the biennial event two years ago and will return to defend their title.
The United States will be represented by Matt Kuchar and Gary Woodland while Rory McIlroy (Ireland), Martin Kaymer (Germany), Charl Schwartzel (South Africa) and Miguel Angel Jimenez (Spain) represent some of the big names playing for other nations.
This week's competition continues an active year for Toledo, who has played professional events throughout the United States. Through 25 events on the calendar, the Guatemalan is averaging a 71.13 scoring average.
