SPRINGFIELD, La. - Two weeks removed from its second tournament title of the year, the University of New Orleans golf team will take part in the Carter Plantation Intercollegiate on Monday and Tuesday.
The 15-team field will compete in two rounds on Monday, with the final round slated for Tuesday morning at Carter Plantation -- a 7,049-yard layout designed by PGA Tour standout David Toms.
UNO, which won the Samford Intercollegiate on March 11, is led by Jose Toledo. The junior leads Sun Belt Conference regulars with a 70.91 scoring average after tying for fifth at Samford following rounds of 71-72-69.
Toledo has shot under par in 14 of 23 rounds this year. Another hot player of late has been sophomore Hector Arias. Arias tied for second at Samford and has put together sub-par rounds in three of his last four efforts.
He has lowered his scoring average to 73.86 - good for third on the team. Junior Adam Cornelson is second on the team with a 73.60 scoring mark. Senior Jason Kuperman (74.50) and freshman Ken Looper (75.12) round out this week's lineup.
"This is going to be a good test for us," said UNO head coach Chris McCarter said. "I'm curious to see how we bounce back after finishing strong in our last tournament. We're going up against five Sun Belt schools this week, and those are the guys we're hoping to beat in April."
Joining UNO this week will be tournament-host Southeastern Louisiana, Arkansas State, Belmont, Jacksonville State, Louisiana-Lafayette, Louisiana-Monroe, Louisiana Tech, Marquette, Middle Tennessee, Nicholls State, Rice, St. John's, Troy and Texas-San Antonio.
