Privateers Hosting Youngstown State This Weekend

NEW ORLEANS - The University of New Orleans baseball team will host Youngstown State in a three-game weekend series at Maestri Field.

Game times are set for 6:30 p.m. on Friday, 4 p.m. on Saturday and 1 p.m. on Sunday.

Due to scheduling conflicts, the games will not be broadcast on WGSO 990 AM. All three games can be seen live on UNO Vision. Log on to UNOPrivateers.com for subscription information.

The Privateers (0-4) will be looking to bounce back after a frustrating opening weekend against St. John's. UNO did get some good starting pitching from right-handers Joe Zimmermann and John Pivach.

The duo will get the start again on Friday and Saturday, respectively. Sunday's starter is undecided.

Redshirt freshman Kevin Berry is also off to a good start, hitting .375 with two RBIs.

YSU, meanwhile, is making its 2010 debut. The Penguins went just 16-35 last season, though they have a pair of all-league weekend starters in Aaron Swenson and Phil Klein.

The right-handers will start on Friday and Saturday, respectively, with left-hander Cody Dearth scheduled to go on Sunday.

Offensively, YSU is expected to be led by All-Horizon League shortstop Jacke Healey. The senior led the Penguins with eight home runs and 36 RBIs in 2009.

The two teams do have a connection in YSU assistant coach Tom Lipari, who played two seasons at UNO. Lipari tossed the only nine-inning no-hitter in school history on March 10, 2001 against Southern Mississippi.
