SPRINGFIELD, La. - The University of New Orleans golf team shot a 4-over par 292 on Tuesday to tie for third place at the Carter Plantation Intercollegiate.
Junior Ken Looper fired a 4-under par 68 to jump into a tie for second individually. It was Looper's second consecutive runner-up finish.
The Privateers also got a top-10 finish from senior Hector Arias, who shot an even-par 72 to tie for eighth place. Junior Oscar Zetterwall shot a 3-over par 75, and UNO also took a 5-over par 77 from sophomore Sebastian Szirmak (tie for 17th individually).
Freshman Pablo Serna (71st) struggled to a final-round 90. Derek East, competing as an individual only, closed with an 80 to tie for 67th.
UNO finished two shots behind tournament champion Louisiana-Lafayette, which shot a final-round 290. Second-round leader Rice was one shot back, with UNO and Central Arkansas tying for third.
Texas-Arlington's Zack Fischer won individual medalist honors thanks to a 5-under par 67. He finished at 7-under par overall.
"Ken had a strong finish and brought it back for us a little bit," said UNO head coach Chris McCarter. "He did a nice job, and it was good to see Hector have a real consistent tournament. We came up a little short this week, but we had a solid fall."
UNO, which wrapped up the fall season, will kick off the spring season Feb. 15 and 16 at the Rice Intercollegiate.
