BOWLING GREEN, Ky - The University of New Orleans men's and women's
swimming and diving teams split a pair of duals on Saturday afternoon
as they wrapped up a two dual swing through Illinois and Kentucky.
The UNO men defeated the University of the Cumberlands 199-77 while falling to Western Kentucky 137-126. The Privateer women topped UC 193-75 while falling to WKU by a score of 132.5 to 122.5.
Petar Petrovic was the top swimmer for the men, as he broke the school-record in the 100 back with a time of 51.04 while taking first place. Petrovic later lowered his school marks in the 50 back (24.49) and 200 back (1:53.47).
Joining Petrovic in the record-setting group was
Cristina Lay, who swam the 400 IM in a time of 4:39.99. She topped the previous top mark by
Lindsey Townsend of 4:50.74 in 2007.
The 200 medley relay of Petrovic,
Mark Schindler,
Birkir Mar Jonnson and
Ash Dougan lowered the school mark in the event after they swam to a finish of 1:35.93. The previous mark of 1:36.85 was set against Stanford by Petrovic, Schindler, Jonnson and
Jake Van Roekel.
Winners on the day were
Kelly Swartzbaugh in the 1-meter dive with a score of 224.18 and
Eva Hannesdottir, who tied for first in the 200 free (1:55.31).
The Privateers next compete against Alabama on Nov. 8 at 12 p.m. The dual against the Crimson Tide will take place at the Reilly Center.
