McCalebb Looks to Set New SBC Scoring Mark on Thursday

DENTON, Texas ? University of New Orleans senior guard Bo McCalebb could break a record that has stood for more than 20 years on Thursday, when the Privateers travel to North Texas for a 7 p.m. Sun Belt Conference matchup.

McCalebb is just 11 points shy of becoming the league's all-time leading scorer. McCalebb, who has 2,309 career points, ranks 12th nationally in scoring (21.9 points per game). Former South Florida standout Charlie Bradley (2,319 points) has held the record since 1985.

The game can be heard live on WGSO 990 AM locally, while fans can also listen online at www.WGSO.com. Mike Wagenheim will provide the play-by-play action. Fans can also watch the game on UNO Vision. Log on to UNOPrivateers.com for subscription information.

The contest is part of a doubleheader with the women's team, which will play North Texas at 5 p.m.

The game should be a close one, as the last 10 meetings have been decided by six points or less. UNO has won the last four games against NT, but the last five games have been decided by a total of 11 points.

The Privateers (12-5, 2-3 Sun Belt) have dropped three of their last four games. Scoring, though, has not been a problem as UNO shot 53 percent in a 97-88 loss to South Alabama on Saturday.

T.J. Worley had a team-best 24 points ? 21 in the second half ? as the UNO reserves combined for 42 points. Worley had six 3-pointers, and UNO had 13 treys overall.

UNO will be facing a former head coach for the third time this season. North Texas assistant coach Tic Price was the Privateers' head coach from 1994-97 and guided UNO to the 1996 Sun Belt Conference Tournament championship.

The Mean Green (12-4, 3-2) are 9-0 at home this season and are led by freshman guard Josh White's 15.9 points per game. North Texas leads the league in rebounding margin (+8.2) and second in scoring (80.6 points per game).

UNO swept the season series last year, and both games were classics. The Privateers took a 97-93 win in double overtime at home on Dec. 16, 2006, before McCalebb hit a 3-pointer at the buzzer to lead UNO to a 64-62 win at NT on Feb. 8, 2007.
